Cycling Vs Jogging

I have been an avid cyclist, as well as an avid jogger at different points in my life. I have gotten an extreme amount of benefit from both. This article is my personal experience in comparing these two sports, in particular for those looking to take up a form of exercise. I’d recommend either one as a great way to stay in shape and feel good about yourself and your life. However which one I would pick at which time, would depend on the current circumstances of my life.

The Benefits of Cycling and Jogging

Both cycling and jogging are good for the heart provided you do them regularly for at least 30 minutes each. They are also great for your cholesterol level and just your overall health in general. You look and feel great! Look at someone who jogs or bikes regularly for the last 20 years and you will usually see someone who looks a lot younger then their age, unless they have abused themselves in other ways, including over exposure to the sun. Both sports also

How Sports Drinks Increase Your Cycling

If you are an intermediate cyclist, then you will be more likely to be interested in sports drinks. Although drinking water is already a good habit, consuming sports Conditioning can elevate your cycling performance, especially during long distance rides.

One of the common sports drinks is “Gatorade”. So are they really beneficial to us? Some cyclists might question the use of these products, especially beginners.

In learning about the truth, we need to find out about glycogen. Glycogen is the compound in which sugar is stored in the liver for release to other parts of the body. In simple sense, glycogen is your energy.

The truth is, your muscles themselves are fueled by glycogen. They are also stored in muscles, other than the liver. However, long cycling rides will last approximately 3 hours or more. This is a problem because the glucose reserves can only last you about 90 minutes, provided that you give your best effort when cycling hard.

Experienced riders who have experienced this total glycogen loss reported

Cycling is the Best Sport

Why is cycling so good for weight loss?

If you take a quick look on any cycling websites or tv shows you will soon notice that cyclists always tend to be very lean, slim figures. Why is this? Well with most sports or workouts the intensity is high and the body tends to source most of it’s energy from stores of the bodies carbohydrates or glycogen.

Cycling is generally known as a low intensity sport. When cycling at a low intensity (not sprinting) the body tends to burn more fat that carbohydrates. The more you cycle the more efficient your body becomes at burning fats and the more they will be used as the primary source of energy.

Why is Cycling Better Than Other Sports For Weight Loss?

The great thing about cycling is that it is virtually impact free. Think about it, when you go out for a jog every time your foot hits the floor there is an impact. Over the course of say half an hour of continuous impacts damage will occur to your muscles in the form of tiny tears.

Outdoor Sports Jackets

If you like to do outdoor activities then one of the things that you must surely own is an outdoor jacket. Not all jackets are the same though, and it is important that you choose the correct jacket for what you want to do. Hiking jacket for example wouldn’t be ideal for cycling in, just as a cycling jacket wouldn’t be ideal for hiking in. I’m not saying that you couldn’t wear a jacket not intended for the sport, but buying a jacket specific to your sport will greatly enhance you enjoyment of it.

Buying a jacket that has features relevant to your sport will make it last longer and the jacket be more comfortable. A hiking jacket would have reinforced shoulders to bear the weight of a heavy rucksack and would generally be made out of tough resistant material. A cycling jacket however would be made out of a lighter material with no reinforced areas simply because it doesn’t need any.

If you were cycling in a hiking jacket, it’s likely that you’d get hot very quickly or your lower back would end up getting exposed because it would

Cycling Injuries

Cycling is good for you, we all know that. Regular cycling will give you a cardiovascular system of someone much younger than yourself, keeping the heart pumping and the blood flowing, will ensure your cardiovascular system stays in top working order. There are however problems associated with cycling, back problems for example are a recurrent problem. Looking after your back is essential if you are to enjoy the pleasures and the benefits from cycling. It’s also good to know how to prevent other cycling related injuries

Back injuries seem to be common amongst cyclists. A recent study in the International Journal of sports medicine questioned 518 recreational cyclists and found that 85% of them had at least some form of back injury, 85% is an enormous number.

Over 79% of cyclists who cycle an average of 75 miles a week, reported some form of back or neck injury problem, knee problems accounted for 41.7% of the same group, while 31% reported wrist and hand pain and 36% reported suffering from groin and buttock strain.

My Personal Road Cycling Journey

The world cheers and screams every time there is a road cycling match whether on TV or live. Nobody can deny the excitement this sport brings to any household. I have grown up watching it with my entire family. There would be food and drinks for everyone. Even the young ones are there to enjoy watching the competition save the drinking part though. Everybody would even dress in their favourite teams’ uniform during the match. The kids will wear their road cycling shoes replica and play in the yard. Those were really fun times.

As I grew up, I began losing the urge to wear my road cycling shoes and play with my childhood friends and relatives while most of the family are in the living room enjoying watching the match, especially international matches. Little by little I have seen myself mingling with the adults in the living room, sharing my views about the strategy of the players in playing and screaming my heart out because of the excitement of the games.

I am not a gifted cyclist. When I was in high school I tried to get in the school’s cycling team and wore my

Retro Cycling Jerseys

One of the hottest sporty fashion trends today is cycling jerseys. Although these jerseys are originally designed for cyclists, many other sports enthusiasts are using these jerseys as well. Moreover, these jerseys are even used not only for any particular sports events, but in any outdoor activity too.

Cycling jerseys are also more commonly referred to as bicycle jerseys. These are especially made for people that do a lot of biking. In fact, such jerseys are not like just any ordinary jerseys, since these jerseys are specifically designed long in the back. This is indeed very practical for cyclists since the long-back design of jerseys is for the cyclist’s lower back to remain covered as he bends over the handle bar of the bicycle.

Furthermore, specially designed jerseys usually have storage pockets located at the back. Pockets for such jerseys are strategically located at the back because this keeps things from spilling, as what is most likely to happen if pockets are in front.

Although jerseys are not really required for cyclists, most especially if the environment is humid, and sweat is more likely to evaporate faster,

Will The Cycling Team for Great Britain Get the Gold

With the Olympics just around the corner it seems that everyone is getting prepared for the event taking place next year. Team GB is getting themselves well organized for the games and intends on representing our country by being the best they can be. However a lot of speculation has come forward that the cycling team will not win as much as they had hoped.

In 2008 at the Beijing Olympics, the British team won 8 gold medals for their efforts in the games. A performance director has announced that they will not win as many gold medals as they did at the previous Olympic Games as some of the actual competitions are changing and altering at the London 2012 games.

Cyclists Chris Hoy, Mark Cavendish, Victoria Pendleton and Bradley Wiggins will all be taking part in the London 2012 Olympics and hoping to achieve their dream gold medals. The change in the games however may mean that their hopes of glory are dashed and that their gold medals will not even be achievable.

Winning on home soil means a lot to these competitors and now their

The Joys of Cycling

Thank goodness for the invention so long ago of the wheel without which the amazing sport of cycling could not exist. Cycling is a wonderful sport both for the very young and the pretty old. Since it is a low-impact activity, it doesn’t place as much stress on the joints as do many other sports and for this reason it is popular with a lot of people whose bodies wouldn’t be up to the rigor of more intense sports. It can be learned and performed by very young children and can be a great tool helping them to develop the balance and coordination that are critical for their well-being. Sports Conditioning

When the seasons change, our sports change. Our bodies, our gear, and our exercise conditioning should change, too. Preparing one’s muscles for a different sport prevents injuries, enhances recovery from preexisting injuries, and improves performance for the sports to come.

Here in Colorado’s Aspen Valley, cyclists are in great form. In the quiet red-rock town of Basalt, cyclists have been enjoying the splendor of riding along the Frying Pan River. For months, they have been fine-tuning their cycling muscles.

But now our attention turns to the slopes of Aspen. In fact, months before the ski resorts open for ski season, locals work on getting their “skiers’ legs” on backcountry hillsides.

Cycling to Skiing: comparing Sports Conditioning styles.

Let’s use the cycling-skiing comparison to demonstrate the different requirements of these sports on our bodies. First, cyclists work on staying in a tucked position. The muscles on the front of the body that put cyclists in a forward-flexed position are strong and tight. And the positioning of a cyclists’ body over their bikes is grossly different than a skier’s stance.

Cycling Garage

I have been joining road cycling events save I couldn’t remember when. One of the equipment I couldn’t live without (save the bicycle itself of course) is the cycling helmets. When I was younger, I met a cycling accident and my life was saved because I was wearing one. Shouldn’t I had one on during that time, it must have been worse. Luckily (if you can consider it that) I only ended up with a broken bone that was easily mended after three weeks of therapy

One of my friends who also had an accident not too long ago had her life saved because she was wearing one of her cycling helmets. Nonetheless, there is one thing common in all of us – we never grew tired of cycling nor we ever thought of stopping our hobby. Instead, we invested in high quality materials. So whenever I go to a sports shop, I also check the latest technology in cycling equipment. It may come with a price but I’m sure I am in good hands and is safer than without using them.

But not everyone can afford buying the latest equipment, especially cycling helmets, which are
